PETRA

Architecture is perhaps the form of art which has more impact on us, not only because we live on it but for being an unavoidable symbol, a representation of something else. Ancient architecture has been always associated to divinity and political power, that’s why when we go to lost cities like Petra, Ang Kor, Machu Pichu or Chichen Itza we feel overwhelm by their beauty and transported to the past just by the sight of them. Petra, a city carved in sandstone walls, the most spectacular site of its kind in the Middle East, with settlements going back to the 6th century BC, was the capital of the Nabateans and their caravan trade. With a strategical location, both in the route of the caravans and the gorges that worked as a natural fortress. New Wonder of the World, hidden from the eyes of Europe until 1812, Petra because of its unique beauty has been called “a rose-red city half as old as time”. Enigmatic, ancient, dramatic, Petra is a reminder that our hands can shape mountains leaving a legacy for the centuries to come.
